The BVI guide is a discontinued product.  Thanks to all who have purchased and supported our product through the years. We continue to market our large collection of island travel photography, including over 300 photos of the British Virgin Islands.

The BVI guide supports Windows 95/98/NT4.0/2000/XP. It DOES NOT work on MacIntosh computers. Versions earlier than Rev 2.3b support Windows 95/98/NT4.0 only. Rev2.3b also supports Windows 2000/XP.

Rev2.3b Update for Win 2000/XP:  You must have your original CD for this update to work. Before installing the update, you must uninstall the previous version of CDIslands (click on My Computer, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and choose CDIslands). Click here to download cdi2_3b.zip, and save the file in a temporary directory. You will need to unzip the file using WinZip or any other program that can perform this task. Once the file is unzipped, run setup.exe to install the executables. Refer to the instructions that came with your original CD to run and use the software, and refer to the information below should you encounter any problems with the install.

PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED WHEN USING THE CDISLANDS SOFTWARE:

We assume that you have a basic understanding of the Windows operating system(s) and your computer's directory structure. Please do not call or email us and say you cannot find the files or the executable. The information below should be all you need to solve any problems you may encounter when using the software.

First, during installation, an error message may appear which warns about a file in use. If this occurs it usually means another application is running (often in the background) which is using the file that CDIslands® is trying to update. You have two options if this occurs:

  1. The easiest is to select the "Ignore" option and continue the installation. This is almost always safe, especially if your computer is relatively new (less than two years old). You should be able to complete the installation and run the program.
  2. The second option is to close down all background programs (you can insure this is done, by using "Ctrl+Alt+Del" and verifying that only "Explorer" and "Systray" are running (Windows 95 only, recommend option 1 for Windows NT).

Second, while running the program, people have encountered a partial view of the CDIslands® screen. This is caused by the wrong resolution selection (or hardware that does not meet system requirements). The resolution is set by using the right mouse button on the desktop. Then selecting the "Properties" menu option. Select the "Settings" tab, and set the resolution to a minimum of 600X800 pixels. You should also have at least 16 bit color ("High color"). If setting the resolution causes the color depth to drop to 256 colors, your hardware does not meet the minimum requirements for CDIslands®. It may still run, but you won’t get the beautiful colors in the CDIslands® photographs.

Third, when attempting to run CDIslands® after installation is successful, a message indicates that Windows® cannot find the program file (cdislands.exe). There should be a browse option presented and you should find the executable file at C:\Program Files\CDIslands\cdislands.exe if you used the default install. Otherwise it will be at (User selected location\CDIslands\cdislands.exe.
